How to Legitimately Make Money Online as a Work From Home Mom

When stay at home moms get the itch to work they have few options. Sending their kids to daycare would defeat the purpose of staying home with them, so they can either find work online, or open a daycare center in their homes…many opt for online work over taking care of other people’s children all day long.
So, to go from stay at home mom to work from home mom, here are a few steps to follow to get started and eventually become a success.
Find Your Niche
Before you do anything else, you need to sit down and figure out what it is that you do that is marketable. Can you sew? Do you have training in a specific area? Do you have a degree in website design? Do you know how to write articles that are interesting, accurate, unique, and sellable? Find out what you’re good at and you’ll find your own cubby hole (niche) where you can make money.
Create a Web Presence
If you want to make money online you need to let people know you exist. ‘No name’ people rarely make it big unless they’re in the music or movie business, and even then the chances are the same as getting struck by lightning or winning the lottery. If you want to get noticed online as a (fill in the blank), you need to let people know all about you and your work.

Blogging: Create and maintain a blog. Tell your friends and family about it, and include links to your blog in applications or project proposals.
Website: Creating your own website is a huge step towards having an online presence, especially if you can use your name in the URL. Your website should tell people what you do, how much you charge, and should list any current or past projects you’ve completed (portfolio).
Social Networking: Never underestimate the power of social networking!

Now, you’ve arrived at the fun yet tricky part of the journey- making money. Once you’ve discovered your niche, created an online presence, and marketed yourself using your blog, website, and social networking connections, you can either sit back and wait for the work to roll in, or check out online freelancing websites and apply for tons of work daily.
Being a stay at home mom can get boring and mundane (the same thing every day will do that to a person). Stay at home moms can easily transform into work from home moms and make an income that will provide a little extra cash every month, and a sense of accomplishment.

there are loads of way to trade your time for money but the best system to build it one that automates itself. if you have the time and you dont need the money, spend time blogging and eventually turn it into a profit source by selling add space or affiliate products. passive income!

Interesting article Mike. All your points are very good. I have another thing that comes to mind with the online presence part. Not only do you need a solid website, more importantly, you need to rank well in the search engines. This is something either you need to learn how to do yourself or get a friend to help you or it can cost a fortune in Pay Per Click or having an SEO firm handle it.

It’s hard making money at home. Agreed, your niche is extremely important, but finding more than 1 successful niche will do you wonder, hopefully.
When I started writing and making posts, I didn’t know anything about niche, keywords and other blogging terms. But I guess I have to agree with social networking. It is because it helps increase blog’s exposure online.

When my wife quit working a few years ago to have our first child, she was looking for ways to make money from home and after a few months she basically gave up. She has toyed with the idea of starting a blog but somehow, I was getting the impression that it was going to be more work for me then for her since I would have to do quite a bit of it until she got the hang of it.

If you have the desire to work at home, then follow the advice in this post. It is spot on. A few things that worked for me: Post cards – slightly larger than the regular size business cards – on the public bulletin boards at the grocery store, pizza place, etc., add a facebook post describing your business, join online communities that are related to your business and give professional advice.

IT is very important to add that success will not come overnight just purely because you decide to work from home. Once you have your website you will spend a lot of time trying to promote it and draw traffic to your blogs. A lot of people get into it and think it is going to be easy when the fact is it is time/labor intensive, especially at launch. I am a new work at home mom so this article is hitting its target for me. I also recomend looking at other mommy blogs, forums and work at home businesses for ideas and guidance.

Yeah you definitely want to find a niche that you enjoy to do in my opinion. Its a tough job being a mom, its even tougher to work on something you are not passionate about. If you can find a niche that you are passionate about, your chances of success are going to be extremely high! In regards to the website, think about the long term usage of the domain name when you are registering it and thinking of ideas for a new domain name. Its hard to change it later down the road.
