Beginners Guide to Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a business model in which an affiliate is assigned a unique URL (link) which tracks the visitors he/she sends to a merchant website/product and each time a visitor takes the desired action, he’s credited with the action and earns a commission.
It’s therefore a pay per action relationship between the product owner and the affiliates.
There are basically two ways you can earn as an affiliate
-Generating a sale
-Generating a lead
In the first case, you earn a commission, usually a percentage of the sale whenever one of the prospects you refer purchase the affiliate product(s). In other words, you get paid per sale. This type of affiliate marketing (Pay-per-Sale) is the most common and is what immediately comes into the mind of many when the term affiliate marketing is mentioned.
Your job as an affiliate marketer is simply to refer potential customers (targeted traffic) to the merchant website and wait for your commissions (Assuming the prospects purchases your product) as the product owner handles the rest from payment processing and product delivery to processing refunds and providing customer support.
In the second case (Pay-per-lead), you get paid for referring potential customers (leads). That’s, instead of referring potential customers to the merchant product directly, you refer them to the product information. For example you might get paid for simply having the prospects to fill out a form, pre-qualifying them for further information.
In some cases, the product owner will even offer some sort of a gift in exchange for their contact details. The gift could be a free trial version of a product or service or a free sample to a product e.g. vitamin supplements
There are many pay-per-lead affiliate programs especially in the areas of finance, insurance, attorney services (legal), etc. You can search for them over on affiliate directories such as Commission Junction.
Affiliate marketing is in my opinion the easiest way to start to make money online and the best suited for newbies. Simply send qualified traffic to the affiliate program and you are ready to start earning. Does it get easier?
As you experiment with affiliate marketing, you can get to learn how things work online and create your own product later on.
Also, as you build your list and build a relationship with your subscribers, you can make repeat sales and profits as you recommend more and more products over time
